IRONMAN
There are few times in life when the opportunity arises to truly make a difference in ones local community; the type of difference that has the potential to drastically change lives for the better. This April 17th and 18th, that opportunity will be at Souther Field as Alpha Gamma Chi hosts their annual 2009 Ironman Charity Softball Tournament. This years Ironman entitled, Homeruns for Houses, has a local focus in Walter and Patty Ploetz.
Walter and Patty has long since been a staple of both the Cleveland community and the Lee University family. They are the inspiration for Crossover, a student organized weekly feeding and service ministry. “Traditionally, Ironman has sponsored national charities, like MS research, hurricane relief and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation,” said Chi chaplain and outreach route leader Chris Hadsell, “This year, Alpha Gamma Chi has decided to focus on our roots in the Cleveland community. Walter and Patty were the obvious choice due to their impact on service at Lee and in Alpha Gamma Chi.”
All of this year’s Ironman proceeds will be used for repairs and maintenance on the Ploetz’s home. With health problems prohibiting their ability to work and to make these necessary repairs to their residence, the men of Chi saw it as an opportunity to lend a hand. “I love the longstanding tradition behind Ironman and I’m proud of Chi for support a local cause with this year’s tournament,” said Chi vice president and Ironman tournament director Trent Catchpole. “I hope everyone will be able to join us in supporting Walter and Patty”
